Digital cameras with USB memory
(spasmous) writes:
Is any manufacturer making a camera that stores data on standard USB memory stick? That's be very handy, since you could detach it from the camera and insert it in any computer. And maybe store other files on it too. I know sony has their own memory stick that you can use on Sony laptops, but unless you're all in with Sony products, it's not particularly useful. Just buy a cheap media reader for the type of media your camera uses. Then you can put it in the computer, and use it as a removable disk drive. I have used my smartmedia cards to carry information this was in the past. In fact, if you pry open some of the USB flash drives, you will see they are really a see that they are a standard media (probably SD) and a media reader. With many cameras, you can connect them directly to the computer and use them as USB mass storage devices. -- Michael Meissner email: http://www.the-meissners.org |

The (very small) media reader plus my old 16 MByte flash card now doubles as a 16 MB USB memory stick. /Roland |

no one really does this since the USB on the cameras are all "slave" devices
which require a master somewhere in the system (usually the PC) The slave cannot initiate transfers so a USB flash disk (slave) would have to have a master in the camera to work. With the USB "On-the-Go" specification devices can be both masters and slaves, but I don't know of any cameras that implement this. "spasmous" wrote in message om...
