Default Photography is in-part "devolving" into high-end audio-speak, as far as VIDEO is concerned

In article 7a6281d3-49fd-434a-a69b-ef90a7c49993
@googlegroups.com, says...

High-end audio-speak is where someone makes a statement about sound that cannot be backed up with any kind of scientific fact. Such as, "Wow, those $1500 1 meter cables sound way better than a $200 pair!" So how does this translate to video? Well, now Panasonic is releasing a 6K-capable camera. Just ball-parking it, you'd need the eyes of an EAGLE to be able to SEE increased detail on a large TV between 4K and 6K. You'd have to be sitting almost on top of the

screen in order to distinguish them. That's also ONLY when you have a stationary shot, any movement erases any HOPE of seeing a difference. Yet there are people who claim they could see it, despite all evidence of human visual physiology to the contrary. Not only that, but increasing beyond 4K puts onerous demands on things like streaming bandwidth, wasting resources AND energy. Lastly, if VHS is represented by over 150,000 movies and TV shows, and DVD is about
70,000, and Blu-ray is less than 20,000, how much material, if any at all will appear on a permanent format as opposed to just being streamed, with all the potential future censorship baggage IT comes with??

Actually 8K video is coming, and there is nothing wrong
with that.
For sure not everybody will need it, but having a 8K
video capture option could turn out to be useful in some
scenarios.

Don't see where it makes much difference, given that most viewers can't
distinguish between 720p and 4k at normal viewing distances. The hype
is all about higher profits from the gullible.

I agree with almost everything that you have said and almost everything that
you will say in your entire life.

If it's significantly (10% or so) beyond visual acuity it is invisible
and meaningless other than to enlarge an image to crop out some detail.

I still have a 1080p plasma screen (sort of "2K") from about 2006 and it
is fine for DVD and BR. Most BR's are beautiful in their rendition
quality when the screen is viewed at a "normal" distance.

Netflix fare at HD such as the recent "Our Planet" has spectacular
cinematography (STUNNING actually), and the 1080p does it great justice
(more for the plasma than the resolution - LCD sets from that era are
just crap in comparison - I digress).

I could "upgrade" to a 65" 4K display (4x bandwidth for 2x resolution),
but I doubt, once a movie is playing, that I'd notice the difference.

6K is laughable for recording to post - though it could of course be
useful for cinematic fare.

And when I think how heavy it is to process 2.7K video from my drone, 6K
is insane for video and would require that I replace my computer just
for basic editing and rendering.

In the end, the reference camera is for "numbers marketing". It may be
useful for some pros, but for amateurs (and most pros) it's overkill of
overkill.

About the same thing than "BIGGER sensor MORE light BETTERRRRRR!" shouting stupids ... Different but about the same. When people believe something they are more likely to do stupid things like buy something.

Bigger sensors gather more light. Cannot be argued.

But what you can do. Consumerims is in somes mothers milk.

Not in the milk. In the media training from age 2 or so.
