4K screen on a 15" notebook
I'm wondering how much sense a 4K screen on a 15" notebook would make.
In a shop I opened a 42MP image on a 15" notebook with 4K screen. It didn't look that breathtakingly sharp. Or to put it differently, is anybody using a 15" notebook with a 4K screen and is it significantly sharper than a 15" notebook with a 2K screen? -- Alfred Molon Olympus E-series DSLRs and micro 4/3 forum at https://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ https://myolympus.org/ photo sharing site |

It didn't look that breathtakingly sharp. then something is wrong. Or to put it differently, is anybody using a 15" notebook with a 4K screen and is it significantly sharper than a 15" notebook with a 2K screen? yes. the difference is significant. there's no going back. |

I went from a 2560x1440 27" iMac, to a 5120x2880 Retina 27" iMac. First and lasting impressions are that they're not that different in day-to-day use. Close up the Retina display is astonishingly sharp in comparison. Up close, text for example is noticeably pixelated on the lower res screen, no pixelation on the higher. The Retina's backlight is more even. But at normal viewing distances, not much difference - including photo work. No regrets - I happened to have the money to afford the Retina model (not that I had much choice if I wanted a new iMac). I would add that I've nothing approaching the level of interest/experience of most of you on this NG. That said, I recently repaired a 2007 1920x1200 24" iMac, and its display is mush by comparison to either. -- Cheers, Rob |

Coming back to the original topic, how much sense make 4K screens on a
15" notebook PC? If they are not noticeably sharper, I would just buy a cheaper notebook with a 2K screen. -- Alfred Molon Olympus E-series DSLRs and micro 4/3 forum at https://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ https://myolympus.org/ photo sharing site |
