Default What kind of film?

Among my granfather's old medium format negatives (6x9, 6x6 and 6x4.5)
I found one that is bigger: the negative is 88mm wide and 114mm long;
the picture area is 106x82 mm. I don't think he ever owned a camera
for this format, since there is only this one picture, he must have
got it from someone else. But any ideas what format this is, exactly?
I would estimate that it was taken in the early 1940s.

That's about 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches. From the film size list in
http://www.nwmangum.com/Kodak/FilmHist.html you can find several matches,
but I'd think 118 as most likely, because it was used in the Folding Pocket
cameras.

Possibly still a popular size on your side of the Atlantic. Called 9 X
12 cm. Some 4" X 5" cameras take the filmholder that utilizes 9 X 12.
My Linhof does and I have some 9 X 12 filmholders. And some
filmholders do both 4X5 and 9 X 12.
