Default Nikon Capture Edit v4.0 "Camera Not Found.." Error

Trying to use D70 with Capture Edit/Capture Control v4.13. The edit part
works ok, but every time I try to use the camera control tool I get the
camera not found error. The camera is plugged in, and Windows (XP-Home)
sees the camera, and I can see the photos on the camera's card and copy them
over to the computer. So, seems like the connection works OK. I have tried
uninstalling/re-installing, etc to no avail. Have tried all combinations I
can think of in terms of camera on/off before/after starting the Capture
Control software.

My trial period for the software has now run out, and I'd like to be sure
this thing works before I toss $99 to Nikon.

Any help/experiences/suggestions most appreciated!

Use PTP rather than mass storage. Check manual on page 165.
