Like Mark has mentioned several times lately, that camera was dropped 90
feet off of a cliff onto the rocks below. Not too surprising, now, is it?

I've seen well made metal cameras broken at inconvenient locations as
well, including flash shoe, lens mount, tripod socket, etc.

I have one "plastic" camera, the 7xi, that has not been badly treated,
nor babied and it is in very good condition. The "eyelets" for the
strap, which I pretty much expected to get broken one day, are still
fine. (The camera is for sale).
