Strange. I have Dropbox installed in my iPhone, and its works well. Why
wouldn't it work on an iPad.

it does work. read what i wrote again:

because a *lot* more can live on an ipad, and a lot easier to use too.

I wouldn't use iTunes for that - just install DropBox and the manuals
will be available on /any/ device with DropBox installed.

itunes is by far the preferred choice, but dropbox can work.

I just did an online search for "ipad (whatever #, or type) manual".
Navigate to the site in Safari, tap on the main PDF window you will see
an option to select the app you want to use to open the PDF. I use
iBooks.

The iPad manual is usually iOS specific, I use iOS7 on my biPhone and
iOS6 on my iPad, so here is how it is presented on my iPad.

I do the same for my camera manuals.

To be clear those are the PDF manuals for my D300s, my G11, SB-800
flash, and some others. It is also worth noting that Apple places the
iPad/iPhone manuals in with books and all other PDF among PDFs, you
switch between the two options with the collections button.

I've been there, done that, but there are no PDFs in the PDF
collection. That is my problem.

The D300S manual from Nikon at

I don't know. It might. I haven't tried it.

At the moment I'm trying to achieve my end with the Apple software
provided.

Have you seen the size of the manuals? :-)

Besides, they get tatty.

I am curious. You say you have the PDFs in the iTunes library what
category or folder do they appear in?

Books PDF

Usually, if you are managing music and files manually, you should be
able to just select the file and drag it to, and drop it on the device
icon (your iPad) in iTunes.

It doesn't work with PDFs. I hade to use 'Add file to library'.

I prefer to use, Dropbox, Safari, or email attachment to import PDFs
into my iPad, and then select "open in the app of my choice. With
manuals that is usually iBooks. If it is something which require
annotating or editing I usually use PDFPen Pro.

I'm beginning to suspect I'm going to have to do that too.

it works with pdfs. you can just drag directly to itunes. i've done it
many, many times. itunes is smart enough to figure out what the media
type is and do the right thing with it.

get ibooks. it's the easiest solution.

So you say. But Google says it doesn't work like that for a lot of
people. That includes me.

I've got it. The iPad came with it.

Fine, but while the PDFs are in iTunes, they haven't made their way to
the iPad. I must have tried synchronising at least 7 times.

are they selected to be synced?

what exactly are you doing?

I didn't recognise the name at first. From the very beginning, I've
been using iBooks for 2 iPad manuals and at least 12 books. They all
work, but the PDF section remains empty.

do they show up in the other sections?
