Yes, it seems almost impossible, but my Pixel 3 does remarkably well in
very low light conditions (it combines multiple fraction of a second
exposures).

Apart from the zoom, the Pixel 3 can now satisfy most of my photographic
needs. It won't suit everyone, of course.

(I have a "1-inch" travel camera, and MFT with various lenses including
macro when needed.)

The camera itself does it, but combining exposures (e.g., 30fps video, thousands of frames) has been done by amateur astronomers for 20 years or more. They started with webcams.

Of course, but this is done in real-time, directly in the phone. No
extra computer required. Borrow a Pixel 3 or 3A phone and try it -
quite remarkable in my view.

the pixel 3/3a night sight is *not* done in real time. it processes the
image *after* the shot is taken, which can lead to unexpected results.

the iphone 11 night mode (which has a misleading name since it isn't a
separate mode) *is* real time, with a real time preview. what you see
is what you get.
