New 50mm f1.4 G is apparently made there. I guess Thailand wasn't cheap
enough anymore?

If they meet the quality spec, that's all that counts. For such you can
be sure that, just like in Thailand or wherever, there is a Nikon optics
engineer based at the plant.

What's the big deal? Cameras and optics have been made in China for years.
Many of Nikons other lens are made in China.

Because the Chinese are ass-----. They're trying to convince everyone to
make the West pay for their foray into C02 emission controls, because "the
rich countries should have to pay." Regardless of what you think of the
global warming fraud, the Chinese have enjoyed double-digit growth, courtesy
of Western markets for the last 10 years while Western industry has
transferred to them, and they want US to pay their way to Kyoto?

Well the US is even worse for CO2.

Regardless of what you think of the
global warming fraud,

It's real.

And? That's business.

and they want US to pay their way to Kyoto?

The US is going to have to start paying at some point. The free ride is
over.

Yep. It's real. But it's not man made.

And do you know what? It stopped in 1998.

But nobody much seems to know that.

Cite? I'm looking at several graphs produced from information in the
public domain, and they seem to tell a different story...

Isn't globalization great?! First, the Japs take out the American
camera industry and now you say that the Chinks are eating their
lunch? I say, Great!

"Laid off yet? Keep buying foreign and you will be!"

So what American-made DSLR or add-on lenses would you recommend your
fellow countrymen to purchase?

The Japanese took over the camera industry a long time ago. Back in
1963 or 1962 I bought a Minolta SRT 101 from TM Chan in Hong Kong.
Even then, there was no American made SLR. But the big players then
were Nikon, Minolta, Miranda, Yahsica, Konica and Pentax with only the
first two surving. I don't remember Cannon back then.
