But the "40mp" synthesis eliminates moire, lessens noise and produces
resolution equivalent to about 32mp so it's not a bad thing to have in a
small package.

it creates horrific artifacts if the subject moves, even slightly.

it's a total hack.

I guess the "static images only" part hasn't penetrated yet?

what part of it's a 'total hack' hasn't penetrated yet?

restricting it to only static images rules out photos of people,
animals, sports, cars, planes, trains, anything on a windy day,
anything with water from ripples to actual waves and more.

if taking photos of rocks and dead people is your thing, go for it.

Ah, just wait. Like with so many Olympus innovations, as soon as it's
adopted by Canon or Nikon, the pointless criticism will stop.

What other "Olympus innovations" have Nikon and/or Canon adopted,
specifically in the digital imaging genre?

Sensor vibration cleaning?

All well and good but every DSLR I've had that has had sensor vibration
cleaning, including an Olympus E-510, still needed a cleaning with
either a brush or wet swab at some point.

True. And that is great too.

But for an honest comparison how about a count of the
many things that Olympus has adopted after they have
appear on Nikon or Canon cameras. That list is hugely
larger than 1.

The essence is that while the point about "Olympus
innovations" may be true, it has no valid significance.

Virtually every characteristic of an Olympus camera except
the sensor cleaning...

Not a small list.
