Vector graphic request
I would like to get an image of a "Celtic cat" in a vector graphic
format. I have one from a commercial source, but it neither of two programs I have access to can read it. I am guessing it is a very old format variation. Any ideas. Oh yea, just to stay on topic, does anyone know of a program than can turn photo images into vector graphics or bit mapped clip art images to vector? -- Joseph Meehan Dia duit |

Google for "celtic cat" images, then trace one with Inkscape: http://www.inkscape.org/ Oh yea, just to stay on topic, does anyone know of a program than can turn photo images into vector graphics or bit mapped clip art images to vector? Inkscape can, it uses the poTrace library to do the actual tracing. Regards, wwwald |

What are you using to open it? Tom |

Probably a CAD, Clip Art or DRAW type program such as Corel Draw, Micrografx Draw or Lotus Freelance. Knowing the file extension of the vector graphic file might help you to identify the application that created it. http://www.fileformat.info/ext/ can identify many file formats. I haven't tried http://www.fileformat.info/convert/image/jai.htm but it supposedly will convert between formats for you if your file is no larger than 5MB. It lists PNG, JPEG, JPEG2000, JPG, PNM. TIF, TIFF, BMP, WBMP and RAW formats. I kinda doubt that their RAW is one of the camera RAW formats since their file format identifier lists for RAW: Real Audio Sound, Raw signed PCM data and RAW file format (bitmap), so it's probably the last one. Googling for "graphics conversion software" shows a number of promising links such as: http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/bitmaptovector/ http://www.sofotex.com/download/Grap...re/more11.html http://www.brothersoft.com/Multimedi..._List _1.html and http://www.autoimager.com/ This last one identifies itself as "Batch Image/Photo Editing and Image Conversion Software" and supports 140 formats, including: AFP, ANI, AWD, BMP, CAL, CGM, CLP, CMP, CMX, CUR, CUT, DGN, DIB, DRW, DWF, DWG, DXF, DWG, EMF, EPS, EXIF, FAX, FLI, FLC, FPX, GBR, GEM, GIF, ICA, ICO, IFF, IMG, ITG, J2K, JBIG, JIF, JPEG, JTF, LBM, MAC, MDA, MPG, MSP, PBM, PCD, PCT, PCX, PDF, PGM, PNM, PPM, PSD, PLT, PLT2, PBM, PCL, PDF, PNG, PTK, RAS, SCT, SGI, SHP, SMP, SUN, SVG, TIFF, TGA, XBM, XPM, XWD, WBMP, WFX, WMF, WPG, and more! |

I did a little more research. The file I thought was a vector graphic type is a MAC type file and may or may not be vector. It apparently uses a file extension PIC that someone does use as a vector type. -- Joseph Meehan Dia duit |

If you mean Mac, as in Macintosh, why not post a link to the file in comp.sys.mac.system and ask someone to 'translate' it for you? I'd vol., but I don't recognize the extension. -- john mcwilliams |
