Just for the extra 2 megapixels? If someone were to compare them side by side, it boggles the mind that some could choose the XTi. |

Given the fact that your main complaint is about plastic (read the subject), why would we conclude that you care about the relative merits (if you even knew about them) other than the stated obvious? -- Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Peter Pace said Monday he thinks homosexuality is immoral and should not be allowed in the military. He said it's no different than adultery. His pics were not nice, And he gave bad advice. The results were sadly quite drastic. Austin |

Winner gets a huge glowing plastic something? And I like the small size of the rebel models... I can be alot more discreet between the body size and more quiet shutter. And if that's not enough for you Rich, it has... a DIRECT PRINT BUTTON!!!! |

Given the fact that your main complaint is about plastic (read the subject), why would we conclude that you care about the relative merits (if you even knew about them) other than the stated obvious? Because I admire the 20D. Canon basically created a well-featured, bulletproof, ergonomically outstanding camera for a reasonable cost. Now, everything is about tight cost control, smallness and appealing to the unwashed. Hence, you get to pay over $1000 for some plastic bodies and the only marginally reasonably priced metal body is (again) a Canon, the 30D. |

His pics were not nice, And he gave bad advice. The results were sadly quite drastic. Austin Lets look at where we are compared to three years ago. Three years ago, plastic was bottom-rung in DSLRs. Now, they are the mainstay because the camera mfgs are targeting the lowest echilon of user. Three years ago, we had $800 P&S cameras, with metal bodies, 2/3" sensors, high quality zooms. Now, we have cheap plastic crap from almost every line, all of which perform (check dpreview's last 20 P&S reviews) just about the same, which is to say poorly. My advice is simple; If at all possible, get a metal-bodied DSLR. Why? Because it goes beyond metal. The whole camera (what is available now) is head and tails BETTER BUILT and nicer to use than the plastic stuff they are foisting on the unwary. If saving 30-50% of the price of the camera means you have to step down 500% in quality, where is the value???? There are some exceptions to the above, but the trend is downward. Offer more megapixels while you rape the crap out of the overall quality of the camera. It's a poor trade-off. |
