Santa was good to me this year...and you?
I picked up an Epson 4990, and it was actually my wife and not Santa who was
responsible. Better yet, I didn't even tell her I wanted one, though I did. She did some research and decided this was best for me. Do I know how to pick'em, or what? :-) First scan right out of the box (also happens to be from amongst my first few 4x5 format negatives, which I developed about a month ago): http://www.mattclara.com/misc/4990_01.html Here's a crop of the image at actual pixel size--3.3MB in size: http://www.mattclara.com/misc/4990_02.html I'm very pleased with the results, though I've nothing to make a direct comparison with yet (I have an 8000ED, but it still won't scan 4x5!). I also picked up a nice canvas back drop and some extra sturdy stands for it. Anyone else care to share their "take" this year? -- Regards, Matt Clara www.mattclara.com |

Our CEO is only useful in that if I show her a print and she says "did you take that?" I know I can show it to anyoneg. (Which is seriously useful, so no complaints whatsoever.) Here's a crop of the image at actual pixel size--3.3MB in size: http://www.mattclara.com/misc/4990_02.html That looks _really really nice_. Is that 4800 ppi? If so, maybe I'll not bother taking my 8000 to Nikon for it's biannual lens cleaning... David J. Littleboy Tokyo, Japan |

So do the comparison on a smaller bit of film, something that'll fit into the Nikon. I am very interested in your results. rafe b www.terrapinphoto.com |

Anyone else care to share their "take" this year? I had an early "take" and spending spree in August and September where I netted some very nifty MF eqipment (Pentax 67II, 5 primes & accessories & Koni-Omega Rapid M), and a new Nikon Coolscan 9000ED, so my actual Christmas "take" this year was nil as a result. Let's just say Christmas came early for me this year. ;-) |

Anyone else care to share their "take" this year? Nothing photographic. Rest was very nice, however. I had to shop for myself this year, with the help of KEH: Fuji GW670II
and Leica Minilux. The Fuji will arrive tomorrow. |
