Newbie question: Is Jobo the way to go for large format negs?

It would be nice if Jobo USA would go back to answering questions on this newsgroup. I'd be very interested in the 3010 drum for 4x5 if I could run it off a different roller system. |

I know some seem to have problems with the 2500 type drums but they seem to work fine for me. I sit mine on a unicolor roller base. I got two bases for I guess $25 US. The Jobo website should still have a short webpage discussing using Jobo tanks on motorbases. For B&W I think it's a great choice. Even works for C-41/RA-4 if you have a way to temper the chemicals. I can't vouch for E-6. The developer steps are longer and might cause a problem. When I first thought about doing color I did a simple test. Filling the tank with 100F water. The temp was pretty constant for 10minutes but I'm not sure it's tight enought for E-6. Okay this is the Jobo webpage. http://www.jobo-usa.com/faq/drums_on_motorbase.htm I know the 2500s work fine. I can't vouch for the 3000 type tanks. How long is the 3010? It needs to be long enough to cover the two rollers. Nick Nick |

The 3010 on the flat portion is about 7" there are two 1/2" flanges at each end, so I thin the effective use area for a non adjustable roller base would need to be about 6". Jobo also had at one point a independant roller that you could set on a flat table etc. -- LF Website @ http://members.verizon.net/~gregoryblank "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."--Theodore Roosevelt, May 7, 1918 |

Any advantages or disadvantages of Jobo over tray-development? Is there a better way to go than Jobo? I've been using a simple Unicolor drum and roller. Cost me $30 on eBay. Works fine. Same here. No need for more expensive hardware in this department so far as I can see. Try it; it's cheap. Another option is ABS and PVC pipe parts from the local home improvement store. If you're build a few of them, you can build tanks with daylight fill and dump for 8x10 (3" pipe size) for about $6-$8 each; these are for inversion agitation and hand processing, but could probably also be used on a roller base if you already have one or build one of your own. -- I may be a scwewy wabbit, but I'm not going to Alcatwaz! -- E.
