Thanks, I'd wondered about them. TBH I don't so much see the need for
superzoom, I have a mirrorless for more serious telephoto stuff. Claims
to focus to 5 cm which is not quite so good as the Canon, and the
Olympus TG is much better.

But it does have good ISO and an optical viewfinder. I shall carry on
musing.

I ended up buying a Ricoh WG-60. Only first impressions so far, the IQ
isn't bad in decent light but they sensibly limit ISO to 1600 because by
then the small sensor is getting noisy.

This has a 5x zoom, my feeling is that for hand holding a small camera
with no viewfinder (so you can't brace against your head) you can't use
any zoom longer than this (iirc it is about 120 mm equivalent). The
digital zoom is just a joke, of course.

So you can use a longer zoom on a tripod with either a remote or the
delay timer but then it's no longer "quick and dirty".

The relatively short zoom range also means it is completely internal: no
telescoping front element with associated clearance for dirt.

The Ricoh gives you GoPro type robustness with easier menus and more
functionality. It's all horses for courses, of course. And it won't
match a modern premium phone.
