Wow! Didn't see this coming
Imagine a world where "serious" cameras did not have the same form factor as
a 1930's vintage Exacta. Camera form has to evolve with the technology inside. It has been taking a long time because of the resistance of the older demographic represented by most posters to this newsgroup. I hope that as the form factor changes so too will the uses to which the device is put and the type of images that will be made. On the other hand, the more things change the more they stay the same: Think about how many consumers are satisfied with the quality of images they get from their smart phone and use it as the masses used Kodak Instamatics in the 1960s. I suppose one could say that regardless of technology the low end remains utter crap used by morons. |

The real kicker is that, at least with the better DSLR's, image quality in the FF (and some cropped sensors) used with "legacy" lenses encroaches on medium format. As to "older demographic", I see an awful lot of young photographers out there with D/SLR's. Age is really not a factor. All these P&S, including SLR-like cameras suffer from the same basic failing: sensor size. At least the DSLR world has (mostly) kept the FF option open. |

Imagine a world where "serious" cars switched from 4 to 5 wheels in 1950, for no good reason except to have not 4 wheels like the Tin Lizzy and most of the carriages of ancient times before it. After all, all change must be good, or something like that. -Wolfgang |
