Question on speed of memory cards for cameras................

I see at Best Buy and some of the other stores having memory cards
with no writing speed rating on them.

So then I go to Ritz or Wolf Camera and they carry memory cards that
are of course of different speeds and prices.

I wonder if this is a scam and the speed really does not matter or if
it is something to consider?

I ask this as I do not see speed labels in a Circuit City or Best Buy
of recent.

It only matters if your camera is capable of writing faster than the card. In
general most of the newer high end DSLRs can take advantage of faster memory
cards. Most of the prosumer and point & shoot cameras (like what Best Buy and
Circuit City sells) will not benefit from the speed increase.
