Olympus fe 110
My mum got herself this camera as a cheap point-and-click. It came with
a 16 MB card, but I'm wondering is it possible to access the internal memory with the card inserted? At 1600 x 1200 for example the capacity of the card is 24 pictures; at the same resolution the capacity of the internal memory is 42 pictures, which I make 66 pictures in total. (Perfectly acceptable for my mum). However, I have taken 24 pictures with the memory card in place, obviously now the camera is reported in the memory card is full, so I would have assumed it would then use internal memory, but it doesn't seem to; so either I am missing something really obvious, or the only way to access the internal memory is then to physically remove the memory card? Pretty stupid in my opinion as every time you open the flap to take the memory card out the batteries fall out, not an ideal situation when you're out taking pictures. (Bear in mind that time I have only seen this camera for a few hours and I only have the basic manual, not the advanced manual on CD which mum didn't give me.) |

That isn't correct. Many Olympus cameras (the FE-110 is one of them) have internal memory so you can take pictures without having a memory card installed. I think they are doing this so they don't have to supply the miniscule memory card that cameras used to come with. Some versions of the FE-110 did ship with a 16MByte card (smaller than the internal memory), but the models that replaced this generation (such as the FE-130 and FE-140) do not come with memory cards. You can't use both at once - when you insert a memory card, the internal memory is disabled. There is a backup function built into the camera that allows you to transfer the images in internal memory to the card. One thing I do agree with Dennis on is to get a bigger memory card - the bigger the better! You can get a high speed 1GByte xD card for around $40. |
