Photo shops in central London
I'm going to London in the near future and was wondering if you could
give me some recomendations on which shops to look for. I'll be staying in proximity of Canary Wharf, but if there's better opportunities other places i'll take them into account as well. I'm looking for a new tripod, filters (NDx4 And grad grey) a rucksack and if the price is right some sort of portable storage. Regards Kurt, Denmark |

Kurt,
I don't know about Canary Wharf - there is a large shopping mall there, but I don't think that there is much in the way of a good photo shop - maybe a small Jessops (a UK chain of photo dealers with a premises in most UK towns - sadly some staff are less than knowledgeable, whilst others are clearly enthusiasts - pot luck). Head for the West End - New Oxford Street (Tottenham Court Road Tube and head east) - there is a huge Jessops and a slightly more "pro" photo shop - Jacobs, which has a massive selection of used gear as well as the latest digital stuff. There are others, some specialist, some pro.; it depends what you are looking for. The best Leica dealer in London (Classic Camera) is not far from the east end of New Oxford Street, for example, ( http://www.theclassiccamera.com/index.html ) and almost next door are two other dealers. Back in Tottenham Court Road are two or three others that may be worth a look. Just north of Holborn Kingsway Tube (same part of London) is a rather quaint old world sort of dealer in Southampton Row - R. G. Lewis, very knowledgeable especially about the previous generation of high quality gear, but also up to date on the latest. You can have a whole day in this part of London going from one dealer to another! Have fun, Tim Boniwell "Kurt Sorensen" wrote in message ... There's quite a few bargain rucksack places around that corner. I'd have thought Canary Wharf would be pretty expensive in comparison.
