OT? Headline writer's dilemma
More from my news aggregator.
Current headline was* "First Black Lesbian Elected Mayor of Chicago". "First Black Elected Mayor of Chicago" was taken in 1983 when Harold Washington was elected. "First Female Elected Mayor of Chicago" was taken in 1979 when Jane Byrne was elected. "First Gay Mayor of Chicago" was never a headline because no one knew for sure. So, the headline writer had to come up with something. You have to wonder, though, if those are the most important facts about Mayor-Elect Lori Lightfoot. *I can't link to that headline because the articles and headlines change from hour-to-hour. -- Tony Cooper - Orlando, Florida |

They should have just said, “New Mayor to take office in Chicago.” That said, the NYT seems to have been less sensational. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/02/us/chicago-election-results.html -- Regards, Savageduck |
