Default Canon teleconverter compatibility

I have a Rebel XT with the EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens and will probably
get the new EF 70-200mm f4L IS USM lens when it arrives. Are there any
metering or AF compatibility issues between this setup and the canon 1.4x or
2x Extenders?

Thanks

If you're buying net-new, I'd suggest a Kenko 300 DG (not the white
one), as it supports a greater range of Canon lenses than the actual
Canon 1.4! My Kenko works great with my 70-200f4, i consistently get
5.6.

Neither Canon converter will work with the 17-85. The lens elements
would clash. Both will mate with the 70-200, but only the 1.4x will
give you AF, as the camera has an AF lockout for any arrangement over
f/5.6. This is one of the reasons a lot of people prefer not to have
lenses slower than f/2.8.
