You're an idiot, Rich...but we all know this...so let's move on. Live preview is useful to PJs. For most others, it's poor technique. That fact remains the same. PJ's, though, who this camera is largely aimed at...may appreciate it. -- Images (Plus Snaps & Grabs) by MarkČ at: www.pbase.com/markuson |

PJ's, though, who this camera is largely aimed at...may appreciate it. Reading the white paper, it seems that autofocus is not possible in live view. This may limit the PJ-usefulness of the feature, other than for wide-angle type shots with the lens prefocused at hyperfocal. With the 5x and 10x magnification available in live view, it would seem of most use to macro shooters or must-get-the-eye-in-focus-at-f/1.2 portrait. -- Ian Riches Bedford, UK |

This makes sense, since the AF detectors are in the reflected path, not on the sensor passing on the "live preview" stuff. I recall that the Canon 20Da pioneered this "live preview" stuff for frank necessity. It may well be that, despite the lack of AF and such, the usefulness was noticed by others. Or maybe the solution was carried along because it had little extra cost. With the 5x and 10x magnification available in live view, it would seem of most use to macro shooters or must-get-the-eye-in-focus-at-f/1.2 portrait. And people who need to precisely focus on the sky. If Canon had a model with the IR filter removed, it would probably sell well to the astrophotographers. But since there are about only 10 of them in the entire world, and they already have more expensive, larger frame, unfiltered, 16b, cooled cameras, well ... |

The LCD apparently does not tilt or swivel, so most of it's utility is DEAD, but an LCD with gain can show you things in near darkness, whereas an optical viewfinder can't. |
