Default Don't bother with Ilford paper & Canon i9950

Hi all,

I've got a Canon i9950 printer and I thought I would try the Ilford Classic
Pearl paper seeing as Ilford bother to make profiles for their paper and your
printer and it's a fair bit cheaper than the Canon Photo Paper Pro yet still has
good print longevity claims.

Pity the ink pools (coalesces) regardless of the paper type setting in the
printer driver, effectively reducing the print resolution to nothing near the
4800x2400 dpi that this printer is capable of. I expect the same problem would
be observed with the i990 as well as it probably has the same print head. I
wouldn't be surprised if the problem is observed with any of the really fast
latest ones actually.

I spoke to Ilford and they claim they can't test every printer so it's
unfortunate that the best results aren't atainable with this printer & paper
combination.

Pesonally I don't think they should mention a printer on the box if they haven't
tested it and confirmed that there will be no problems. In Australia there is
actually a law that covers this in our Trade Practices Act. Wording to the
effect of not of merchantable quality, and doesn't perform as advertised.
Basically this paper doesn't work with this printer so don't say it does.

Looks like I'll have to stick with the rather expensive Canon Photo Paper Pro
which is a real shame because I've been happy with the Ilford paper in the past
in an Epson Photo 700.

How odd, since I've had stellar results with the Canon 9000 and that very
paper.

Hi John,

Sorry to hear that your Kodak paper did not work for you? Did you use the
settings noted for your printer on the Kodak site. Kodak has gone to the
trouble of testing every printer that is released and providing settings for
them specific to the type of Kodak paper you might be using (printers tested
over a couple of months time). If you use the EasyShare software it is
built in. Check the Kodak site for Inkjet and get the latest settings for
your printer. The i9100 is of course, included. Give the settings a try.
They should improve your results.

I had the same problem and finally downloaded the EasyShare software and the
Kodak paper on my Canon I950 returns good results. The only issue was how
bloody long it took to download the software. Any chance of a CD so I can
use the latest version?

Regards

Greetings Don,

I understand the concern about the long download. But if the full file were
posted it would likely take you twice as long as the file would be about
twice the size or more. CDs are available, of course, from online retailers
$7.95, and with Kodak cameras. You might want to contact our online teams
via the local web site (Australia) to see if they can help more directly.

If you installed the Kodak Updater when you downloaded and installed
EasyShare software, you would only have to do this once. The Kodak Updater
works like the Microsoft or Symantec products and updates the Kodak software
automatically behind the scenes when a new version is released. This saves
you the trouble of downloading an entirely new version every time. Nice
feature. So, if you have installed now, you will not need to download or
install other versions in the future.

Talk to you soon, Don,
