Default Ripping DVD's

IF this is not the appropriate group for this, would someone please
point me in the right direction.

I am interested in making back-up copies of several commercial DVD's I
own. I am using an iMac with a super drive running 10.6.3.

I have downloaded VLC, HandBrake, Mac The Ripper, MDRP and Ripit.

What I need is some direction in what to do, in a First do this, Second
do this type list.

Also,I have heard that DVD's that are "burned" do not last as long as
DVD's that are pressed. I know the difference in the processes, but
have no information on why this is true.

TIA,

one of the mac groups would be better, since you have a mac, either
comp.sys.mac.misc or .apps.

mac the ripper or handbrake will work.

because a burned dvd has a dye that deteriorates over time.
