The OP did not say his shot won 2nd place, can't you read?
And it is the August 07 issue which is NOT in their
website yet. What is it with folks that just can't understand
basic text?

you describe the image?

An image captured with a Yashica-MAT 124G won 2nd place in Popular
Photography's August 2007 Your Best Shot. My 124G is in regular use and
it's nice to know others appreciate its capacity to capture beautiful
images.

The "superslide" format was popular for a while, because 4 x 4 cm
slides in a 5 x 5 cm (2" x 2") mount could be projected in most 35mm
slide projectors. The image area was 16cm2 compared to 8.64 cm2 for
35mm slide.

The lenses of most 35mm projectors vignette very noticeably when
projecting larger than a standard 35mm slide.

A Rollei Dual P66 is perfect for these slides......no vignetting at all of
course....if you use the 6x6 lens and condenser set when
viewing 35mm slides. I do that using the 120mm Apogon lens.

And a Rollei P66 is not really a 35 mm projector, is it?
Certainly not when using the 6x6 lens and condensor set...
;-)

It works fine as a 35mm projector. It is the best projector I have used for
viewing
35mm slides. Better than e.g. a Leica with Super-Colorplan lens.
The glass mounted slides are pin sharp from corner to corner. So if you just
need one
projector (one lens and condenser) for both 35mm and 6x6 then why not just
get
this projector. The one and only :-)

Selective editing again. Relevant post para. re-inserted above. The
point was claiming a 35mm proj. for MF cut to fit into 35mm slide
projectors ... with larger than 35mm apertures in the holder
(40mmx40mm). Most 35mm projectors will vignette quite visibly. Seen
it. Using a good 6x6 projector to project a 4x4 can't be too much of a
challenge...

Cheers,
Alan

Some are better than other. So the right 35mm projector and lens has to
be selected. Could be either the lens and/or condenser which causes the
vignetting.
Some people claims that it is possible to find a 35mm projector + lens which
does
not cause vignetting when projecting super-slides. Maybe some people here
knows
what projector to select.
