Default Help! "Card Not Initialized"

Can anyone tell me what happened? I have a Fuji Fine Pix 1300 with a 128 mb
smart media card. I let my niece use it on a trip with me. She took over
200 pictures and everything was good. I viewed the pictures on the camera
with no problems but on the way home she handed it to me and it said "Card
Not Initialized". I swapped the card out for a 8 mb card and it worked fine
in the camera. I tried the bad card in another 1300 camera and it says the
same thing. I then tried it in a card reader and it said it was not
formatted. So I take it the pictures are gone, but how did this happen? I
have used this camera and card for about two years with not one problem. Its
a good thing I took my s5000 or we would have lost all pictures.

I have had very bad luck with smart media cards; four of them lost over a
five-year period!

I had the exact same thing happen. Take a pencil eraser and clean the
contact area on the card. Be careful and go easy. I had the same thing
happen. After cleaning, the pictures were still there. Give it a try.
Let me know what happens. I haven't had a problem since.
