Default Pentax K-1000

Hi Folks,

A few weeks ago I asked a question about what was the best
choice out our a Nikon F55/65/75 - the answer I got was the
F80 - which at first I thought was out of my price range
but after doing a bit more reading I realise why the inital
investment would be worth it, and thus I saving as we speak!

Today I noticed a post on Slashdot where a read asked what
a decent 35mm SLR would be for a beginner, and almost all
the replies are telling him to get a Pentax K-1000.

I have done a bit of reading into these camera's and they
seem to be very good at teaching a photographer how they
should be taking pictures.

I have seen a K-1000 for sale at a local shop in perfect
condition quite cheaply, hence this post!

Would it be worth me getting the Pentax K-1000 while I was
saving for the Nikon F80?

I know its a fully manual camera, and in my original post
I was also after a camera that I could just point and click
but now, my interest seems to have grown a little, and I
would now like to know more about photography than I originally
thought.

Thanks,

Andrew McCall

One one hand ...
I'd say probably not. Why?
Because you'll be moving from a completely manual environment to a
completely automated one. It's too great a difference to adapt to.
and ...
If all you want is pretty flower pictures and nice shots of the kids
then wait for the new electro-whiz-bang-gizmo.

On the other hand ...
If you want to spend time with the camera and become intimate with all
the settings and nuances of exposure, then get a manual camera and
stick with it (or keep one around for the experience).
Whether a K-1000 or FM2n or FTb or any of the classic vintage
manual/mechanical units, you'll always be drawn back to the quest for
perfection.

Whatever your choice ... enjoy photography.

Collin
