differences in paper grades

Last night, I printed a negative with the remaining sheets
of Agfa MCC 312
I had left. The prints came out just great using no
filtration.

I decided to make a FB print of one with some of the new
Oriental FB
paper. I've gotten good results in the past with this
paper. However I
had to keep cranking up the contrast...requiring a 3.5
Polycontrast
filter! This seems like a huge difference in contrast. I
would expect at
most a grade difference.

Is this normal?


Agfa VC paper seems to be about grade 2.5 with no filter
and using a typical incandescent enlarger lamp. Filters vary
from paper to paper although this is a pretty large
difference. Its useful to find the color head settings for
the papers and compare them.
