Camera purchase advice
I know this will end badly, but here goes
I have worked my way (over time) through the Canon Powershot series; A60, A510, A630, A590is. The reasons for buying have been good-to-excellent image quality, and full manual controls. The reasons for replacement have been A60 - sensor came unstuck (the Canon recall came to late for me) A510 - in a rucksack with a can of coke that exploded A630 - dirt in the lens (how !?) The 590 has been disappointing in terms of image quality, both spatial definition (AKA sharpness) and colour capture, when compared with my (beloved) A630. I enjoy small cameras for ease of carrying, and enjoy pushing small camera to extremes. I enjoy (frankly) messing about digitally (HDR, panorama, focus stacking, timelapse, astro photography...) As such, CHDK has been a boon. So - the 590 has FAILED to be a useable successor to my A630. What should I buy? BugBear |

Or get the old one fixed http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho.../dp/B000HAOVC6 |

Or get the old one fixed http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerSho.../dp/B000HAOVC6 I considered the repair option, but was quoted 100 GBP purely for the repairer to TRY. Small cameras are so fiddly that repair is borderline not possibly at effective cost (like many modern items) Hence the (oops) a590. BugBear |

BugBear No - I've not shopped for a camera for some time, since I've been quite happy over the years with refurbished Kodak cameras from the Kodak online store. I'm currently using a P850 purchased several years ago. Factors I like include 12x zoom and RAW capability. Some of the current 'Z' series include RAW. |

SOMEONE has to ask this question every three to six months, or we all get bored and surly. This just happens to be your turn. Let the fray begin!! :^) Bob |
