NO - they no longer work. There's a warning on the box to that effect now as well. The microdrive connector (or any CF connector for that matter) has both CF and IDE bus'. The player uses the IDE bus, so since the CF is unneeded for the player, it's now disabled. I'm not sure if it was Creative or Hitachi making the call, but I'd suspect the latter. Creative was selling players and getting publicity out of the shortate - why would they care what they're being used for? Hitachi OTOH was losing potential sales. I think you nailed it on the head when you said Hitachi was losing POTENTIAL (in their own mind) sales. I'll bet the number of $500 MD sales is unchanged and the only difference is that Hitachi is now selling fewer MDs period. -- John DeGroof, Compressionist DVD, DAD, DVD Audio, MPEG, AC3, DTS, PCM, DSD, MLP |

I think it's interesting that Hitachi found it to their liking to sell them cheap to Creative, but then balked when they were needing to sell TONS of them to Creative due to people's extraction fo the drive. While I'm sure their profit margin was far greater selling them as stand-alone microdrives, I would wager big $$ that they will prifit LESS now. I, for one, was not about to purchase a 4GB drive...but would have--if I could purchase the Muvo2. Oh well...They'll get NOTHING from me now. It's an interesting strategy move. I'd be curious to know their related income comparison in a year's time. |
