Default IrfanView plugin stopped working siuddenly

Puzzled to find that a function of IrfanView I use many times a day is
not working this morning. Hitting F12 should pop-up a frequently used
tool window. I now get the error message:

Can't load Plugln: "PAlNT.DLL" !
Please install or update Pluglns from IrfanView homepage!

Re-installing (several times) made no difference. Nor a fresh download
of irfanview_plugins_444_setup.exe

Looking in C:\Program Files (x86)\IrfanView\Plugins I was also a bit
surprised to find that Paint.dll was not present. But nor was it in my
nightly or weekly backup of that folder. Which implies that perhaps it's
not *supposed* to be present - adding to the puzzle.

It *is* present in the 64-bit IrfanView version, and works properly. I
followed a recommendation to use the 32-bit version because more
plug-ins are supported!

Anyone know what might be going on here please?

If the 64-bit works, use it. Just checked my (rather older) IrfanView
32 on a 32-bit Win-10 and PAINT.DLL is listed as a plug-in. Perhaps if
you have both 32- and 64-bit installed the program is trying to use the
wrong version?

By the way, I install to C:\Tools\ rather than the more protected
Program Files tree(s), but I wouldn't recommend that for a shared PC.

I've not used Irfanview for a long time but, in view of your comment, I
went here
http://www.irfanview.com/64bit.htm and installed same on my
laptop (which is currently running Windows 10) without difficulty or
problem.

Here's a duck which I've cut from the image in my recent post of Tixall
'wide' - Message-ID: - using Irfanview:-

Is there any particular test you'd like me to carry out on your behalf?

I'm more than willing to help if I can!

IrfanView works well here on Windows-10, both 32-bit and 64-bit.

that must be a new definition of 'works well'. irfanview is and always
has been garbage. even their web site is a joke. a *fixed* 800 pixel
wide site? in 2017?
