Default Pentax 6x7 mirror lock up chain?

put in a new battery, tests fine. Loadied the camera with film. Tried
to use the mirror lock up and couldn't lock up the mirror. Took off
the lense and noticed a thin chain, loose on one end, dangling. Could
it be that this chain is not attached to the mirror and that's the
reason it won't lock up?
