Default 5 Meg. ..Too much camera?

I recently purchased a Kodak 4530. Lowest setting is approx. 1 Meg. (for
email and web). My problem is that the file size, from my view is WAY TOO
BIG for either.

Can anyone recommend a utility to (after d/load), which can do a batch
resample ....or somehow reduce all the pix to a reasonable size for email or
web use.....preferably all at once?

Thanks.
Keith

I agree, by the sound of the original post irfanview would be perfect. I
still use it side by side with Photoshop and others.

Yep, nobody wants 1 meg files. You want a 600 x 400 or 800 x 600
pixel picture and enough compression to get the file down to 300 KB or
less. Lots of people recommend freeware from Irfanview. Are you sure
that the Kodak software won't do what you want?

Do yourself a favor...give yourself a chance at something great.
Shoot at your best JPG setting....then if you take the best photo you have
ever taken in your life you will be able to make a print to hang on the
wall. Down sampling can always be done...not so with upsampling.

Couldn't agree more. Camera memory is pretty cheap nowadays, and you just
never know when a photo you take will turn out to be really wonderful and
you'll think "Wow, I think I'll blow that one up and put it in a frame" and
then you realise you can't because you were shooting at low resolution.

If you're going to have to downsample from 1 meg anyway for your needs, you
might as well do it from 5.

Irfanview (www.irfanview.com).
It will do the batch resizing you want very easily, as well as a lOT
of other things.
When you DL it, be sure to get the plugins, too.

Use the normal or fine (maybe "best") JPEG setting just in case you want to
print. If you are viewing the pictures on a computer you should resize them to
800x600 or 1024x768, or even only 640x480 if you will be emailing them and only
have a dialup modem connection.

If you are going to print a 6x4 photo you need at least 1800x1200. Anything
higher than that might not be noticable in the print. If you are going to print
an 8x10 then don't resize the picture at all.
