Any Minolta/Sony users using UFRaw and GIMP?
Neil Ellwood wrote:
Have you tried Raw Studio or Raw Therapee ? One final follow-up for those interested. I did install both programs and tested them. It turns out that Raw Studio can properly display Minolta (mrw) files but not Sony (arw) images. However, Raw Therapee appears to work properly with both file types. I added screenshots to the webpage at: http://smallthoughts.com/photos/misc/GIMP/index.html showing the results. So I will be switching to Raw Therapee since it is the tool that provides the best starting point for raw file editing. Thanks Neil for the recommendation, and thank you to everyone else who offered advice on the issue of UFRaw. Regards, -- Jeff |

This a.m. I installed Ubuntu (13.10) as a virtual machine under Fusion, and then installed UFRaw (0.19.2-2ubuntu1) and the Gimp (2.8.6). No issues at all with reading .arw or .mrw files in UFRwaw other than initial settings being a little "out of whack" (to use highly technical jargon) - but nowhere as bad as with your examples. However tossing the file (using the UFRaw Gimp button) would not work. Had to save an interim v. as .ppm and then open that in the Gimp. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zmqhpfxn2u...2011.08.25.jpg (Likewise no issues in OS X with UFRaw / Gimp - and the toss (gimp button) worked correctly). Raw Therapee was clunky until I upped the cores available to Linux from 1 to 4 and increased Linux memory from 1 GB to 8 (2 or more would have been enough, I'm sure). -- "Big data can reduce anything to a single number, but you shouldn’t be fooled by the appearance of exactitude." -Gary Marcus and Ernest Davis, NYT, 2014.04.07 |
