Default Nikon equivalent to Canon 75-300 IS USM?

Hi,

Is there an affordable lens similar to Canons 75-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM
for the Nikon mount? The lens should either have image stabilization
or offer larger apertures. I'm mainly interested in focal lengths not
larger than 200mm, so a x-200m will also do.

Thanks,

Matthias

Nikon has the following VR lenses in the range you want.

70-200 f/2.8 AFS ED VR with 1.4x teleconvertor giving a 100-280 f/4
http://www.naturfotograf.com/AFS70-200VR_rev00.html
http://www.camerahobby.com/Review-70-200mmVR.htm

80-400 f/4.5-f/5.6 AF ED VR
http://www.naturfotograf.com/VR80_400_review.html
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/80400vr.htm

Neither are very affordable.

Well - you could try the AF-S VR 70-200 f2.8 lens. Seems to be just what you
need - it's an f2.8 lens with Vibration Reduction (Nikon's take on the Canon
IS).

Not cheap though.....

The 73-300 Canon lens is a "consumer" grade lens (I have one) and is
substantially less expensive than the Nikon lens that you mentioned.
(although for good reason, including the speed)

The Canon lens mentioned above can be had for less than $500 retail.

The fabulous Nikon F mount - that paragon of 1959 high tech makes it
pretty hard for Nikon to make IS lenses at all. Don't expect equivalents to
Canon very soon.
