Default some simple video edits

Hi,

I can use the Windows "Camera" app to capture *.mp4 videos to my suiting.

I used to have an app on Windows, might have been VLC, to get an *.ogg
from the *.mp4 for Linux viewers of my website. I think when I was using
what I think was VLC I had to edit properties so the *.ogg would be
recognized as video as opposed to audio.

Any recommendations for *.mp4 to *.ogg conversion?

I also want to do two simple color edits I used to be able to do before
I updated my laptop to Windows 10 and erased the native HP editor.

Here is what I am doing ...

https://www.dalekelly.org/weblog.html

(Have a look at the source to see where *.ogg fits in)

The top video is the look I want. The bottom two videos are where I am
starting. Basically switch color to grey-scale then increase contrast so
the video has focus on my face.

Any recommendations for these two simple edits?

I do not know about editing. However, VLC still has the capability to
convert .mp4 to .ogg. Actually, VLC can convert video .mp4 to either
video .ogg or audio-only .ogg.

Would the United States be more prepared to deal with COVID-19
if President Trump had not cut the budgets of the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC)? His administration also eliminated the
Directorate for Global Health and Security and Bio-Defense,
the agency within the National Security Council tasked to
provide early warnings about epidemics and pandemics.

To even begin to understand Dale's question, I had to look up the
difference between an MP4 & OGG container to see why he might ask:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Media/Formats/Containers

Which says that the MP4 container format supports these video codecs:
o AVC (H.264)
o AV1
o H.263
o MPEG-4 Part 2 Visual
o VP9
And these audio codecs:
o AAC
o FLAC
o MPEG-1 Audio Layer III (MP3)
o Opus

By way of contrast, the OGG container format supports these video codecs:
o Theora
o VP8
o VP9
And these audio codecs:
o FLAC
o Opus
o Vorbis

Of course, we have to then figure out the difference between a codec and a
container, where this article describes the key differences as:
https://www.techsmith.com/blog/video-file-formats/
o codec = deals with compression
o container = the box format packaging (i.e., file name extension)

I looked up why someone might want to convert MP4 to OGG (or vice versa):
http://www.qweas.com/reviews/comparison_of_container_formats.htm
where the main "yes/no" difference seemed to be "supports menus".

I didn't download Dale's videos to determine the container & codec, but
those who are interested in doing so could then feed the resulting file
into any of these freeware programs which will report the details.
o avicodec
http://avicodec.free.fr/
o codecinstaller
http://www.jockersoft.com/downloads/CodecInstaller/setup_CodecInstaller_full.exe
o gspot
http://gspot.headbands.com/
o mediainfo
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mediainfo/files/latest/download
o videoinspector
http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?vtb

Any others you'd recommend for determining containers & codecs?

What Linux users do you imagine require ogg?

People using a Mozilla html browser like Firefox?

VLC works just fine on Linux. Use mp4 and leave it alone.

ffmpeg, I suppose. Probably VLC also? (I've never ever used .ogg other
than to convert from it to a format everyone can use).

Pretty sure ffmpeg can also do this.

Thank you !

But this is entirely OT for alt.html.

Thank You Arlen !

Do you mean that it isn't enough to have the file formats on my website
but I have to have different files to support the containers and codecs
a user might need?
