Default Dusty lens

Just bought a "new" Canon zoom lens (28-135mm) for my EOS300D from
www.digitalfirst.co.uk

The lens was delivered and, on inspection, looked a little dusty. There
was also a fingerprint on it, so someone had clearly handled the unit
prior to shipping.

I used a lens cloth to clean of the dust and fingerprint. On the
internal face the front lens, however, there are still two small specks
of dirt that I obviously can't get to with the cloth.

Is it possible to disassemble the lens so that I can clean behind the
lens?

Would two or three small specks of dirt (less than 0.5mm across) behind
the lens affect the camera performance anyway?

Hi there.

Yes it is entirely possible to disassemble the lens and clean the inner
surface.

The problem arises when re-building it. If any pieces of glass are not in
exact positions relative to one another, or any of the mechanical parts have
been moved, even slightly, then the lens will be rendered totally useless.

Very specialist knowledge is required, Do not even think about attempting
it.

Almost every lens will have little specs of dust, or even marks within the
glass, and they will have no effect on the photos. If the internal dirt gets
so bad that it does have an effect, then the lens needs to go for
professional cleaning.

Why bother? Unless you bought a grey market lens, it should have a
warranty. Since the lens is new, return it or get it fixed under the
warranty. Taking the lens apart will likely invalidate any warranty you
have on it.

I agree 100% with Roy. It would appear what you have is just fine. It
is not unusual at all.

If you feel there is a problem, then I suggest you take it up with the
seller as that is your right.
