Is a 28mm rangefinder really optically better than a reflex 28mm ?
Hello,
I've compared the photodo results beetween 28/2,8 biogon and 28/2,8 distagon. Distagon perform surprising good results. I was considering to get a rangefinder to make landscape but for now just a mirror-prelock contax body seems to fit. Regards. |

The dificulty with wideangle lenses for reflex cameras is the rear element has to be farther from the film than simple optical designs can provide. Whereas with a rangefinder camera, that back element can go right where it wants. I wouldn't have expected the difference to be so clear with something as mild as a 28mm; but perhaps it is. Or perhaps that's an old reflex design, and modern ones do much better? -- David Dyer-Bennet, , http://www.dd-b.net/dd-b/ RKBA: http://noguns-nomoney.com/ http://www.dd-b.net/carry/ Pics: http://dd-b.lighthunters.net/ http://www.dd-b.net/dd-b/SnapshotAlbum/ Dragaera/Steven Brust: http://dragaera.info/ |

Ok, but
Distagon of the test was older than the biogon of the G system so... David Dyer-Bennet wrote: Arnaud B writes: I've compared the photodo results beetween 28/2,8 biogon and 28/2,8 distagon.
