announcements? For what purpose? For sure, it's a sales technique,
provided by Canon and eagerly implemented by Dpreview.

In reply to Rich's original question, there is currently a dearth of
new equipment announcements.

This is partly due to the recession - all the manufacturers have cut
back investment to some degree - and partly due to the fact that we
are in a dead period between the holidays and PMA 2010.

There will be some major announcements before and during PMA (which
runs from February 21-23, 2010) but probably fewer new items than in
previous years because of the recession.

I note that PMA 2010 is to be held in Anaheim. There will be many
disappointed sales reps, marketing people, journos etc., who will
surely miss the "delights" of the fleshpots of Las Vegas. :-(

It will be a good time for thousands and thousands of people to learn of
all the benefits of P&S cameras. They won't be wanting to invest in
overpriced DSLR bait & switch cons where you have to buy a $1500 lens to
try to make a DSLR have the image quality of a good P&S camera. Once they
have a good P&S camera in their hands they'll see no reason to ever go back
to that DSLR crap ever again.

Ummm, I wonder what you were holding in your hand as you posted this?

Many DSLR owners also own and use compact cameras, cell phone cameras, PDA
cameras, video cameras, super-zoom cameras, and ...

WTF?
