Canon 1D mk2

Does anyone know whether the price of the Canon 1D mk2 is likely to drop? I
remember when the original 1D dropped suddenly by £1000 in the UK, unluckily
for the people who had only just bought one at the original price. I am hoping
to buy the mk2, but would prefer to wait, if it is likely to go down in price.

Sure. It will drop precipitously... just before the NEXT new model comes
out. Regular as a clock.

Sure. It will drop precipitously... just before the NEXT new model comes

The original 1D dropped because the 1D Mark II was announced, and the 1D was
going byebye....

Don't count on price drops for a while.... UNLESS the D2x starts killing
sales as it very well maybe priced at or under the 1D MarkII.

With that 1.5x FOV crop, i dont think it will. For that kind of money, full
sensor is the only way to go. 1D MkII is aimed at the studio pro who will
not accept anything but a full frame especially at that price!

Well, anyone buying the 1D MkII had better be satisfied with a 1.3x fov crop,
because that's what it's got.

Maybe you were thinking of the 1Ds or 1Ds Mk II? Both of these are full frame
....

In the US, it just did drop by about $400 USD. It had been $4500, now is
$4100.

Hmmm, The 1D mk.II is a 1.3x FOV crop. Sensor is 28.7 x 19.1 mm CMOS 8.2
million effective pixels. Not to be confused with the not available yet 1Ds
mk.II which has a 36 x 24 mm CMOS 16.7 million effective pixels. Refer to

The 1D Mark II is an 8mpix speedster with a 1.6 digital factor...

You must be talking about the 1Ds Mark II.

As for FF in a 35mm style DSLR, IMO who cares. If the D2x produces the image
quality that I get out of my D1x with twice the pixels, it will be a VERY
nice camera at about half the cost of the 1Ds MarkII.

I understand that many people are *stuck* on the whole FF thing, but IMO if
you live in the studio, the camera one needs is not made by Canon, or
Nikon....
