what to use for close up black and white photography
I wanted to take closeup black and white photgraphs and I was
wondering what type of filter I should use to achieve the best contrast, and what film I should use to get the best quality print without a lot of grain. I'm not printing my own prints, so I can't control the printing paper. Thank you! |

What are you photographing, does it move, what kind of lighting, how close, what size film, and what size print? Well the subject isn't going to move, i think I'm going to use a guitar. As for the lighting I'm going to have a tall lamp that is shinning on the guitar. im using a macro lense, and I'm going to use kodak 35mm print film. I'm a college student so I don't have a studio, it is my hobby. And I'm not in a photo class yet so I don't have access to a darkroom. |

I want them to be abstract prints so I will use different shooting angles. My film is kodak 35mm b&w print film. Since I don't have a studio, I'm going to use tall light and position it coming from different angles. If it helps I'm using a cannon rebel 2000 SLR camara. I'm hoping to get a couple 8x10 prints. |

I would probably use TMax100, it has plenty of contrast for my tastes and it's relatively easy to get it processed. If you want to get super contrasty you could use Tech Pan (processed for high contrast) or even Litho film. BTW this cries out to be done by you, not a lab, can't you rent a darkroom somewhere? -- Tom Thackrey www.creative-light.com |
