Default Nikon Capture Editor 1.4.2 / Windows-XP SP-2 problems.

I just upgraded my NCE from 1.4.0 to 1.4.2, and when I try
to close the program a message appears that reads:

"There are still images waiting to be saved. Either wait for these saves to
complete
or cancel them before closing Nikon Capture."

After that, the only way to close NCE is through the Windows Task Manager,
and sometimes an error shows :

"NCapture.exe szAppVer : 4.1.2.3006 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000".

I'm running Windows XP Pro with Service Pack 2 installed, and
although I just learned here that some people are experiencing problems
with NCE and Windows XP with the SP-2 service pack installed,
I wander if there is a fix to solve this, before I try to communicate
with de Nikon support people, which I know it is going to be
time consuming and very difficult.

BTW: I own a D70, and I use NCE mostly to correct and batch
process the RAW files I download from the camera, but as I also
have Photoshop CS installed, do I really need
having to deal with all the problems NCE is producing now?

Can I perform good RAW conversion and picture corrections
using just Photoshop or any other software?

I'll appreciate any help regarding this matter.

Thanks in advance.
Paul

Apparently problems with SP2 do strange things with many computers. After
loading it on one at home the wireless net went down. Had to remove SP2 and
spent seven hours on the phone with Microsoft wireless net tech support
putting things right.
