Digital Camera Sensor Performane Summary updated Feb 3
Obviously, that does not indicate in any way that Bob G is unable to understand or evaluate the tables, merely that "a Master's in Mathematics" is about as relevant to understanding the tables as deep sea diving is. -Wolfgang Bob G is perfectly able to understand and evaluate the tables. But Bob G prefers to take pictures. Bob G would rather drive his car than take a course in automotive mechanics. Bob G has learned a few things about his car, nevertheless. He knows how to start the engine, release the hand brake, adjust mirrors, put his seat belt on, put the car in gear, steer left or right, back up if necessary, mind his speed, obey traffic laws, and so on. But Bob G doesn't know much about internal combustion engines. Similarly, Bob G knows where the on-off button on his camera is, he knows a little about white balance, ISO, depth of field, f-stops and shutter speeds, and so on. But Bob G doesn't know much about signal-to-noise ratios. He studies photographs much more than he reads camera technical manuals. That's Bob G's choice. Bob G is sorry to have offended photographers who delight in technology. He understands that good photography and a love of technology are not mutually exclusive. Still, he suspects that in many cases they are inimical to each other. And that was his point. |

Ah. so you're one of those people for whom nothing is interesting if it isn't useful. I guess that's why you put so little thought into your postings. You like to jump to conclusions easily. Bob G is interested in many things that few would consider "useful". Poetry, for example. But Bob G would be inclined to deny that there are areas of human interest that would qualify in their entirety as "useless". Your post comes close. |

Bob G's in a mood. :O) My wife says talking about yourself in the third person sounds insane, so Dave should stop doing that. Dave has stopped doing that, because his wife said so. Mostly... Have fun, Dave |

wrote: If you haven't visited this month, see: http://www.clarkvision.com/imagedeta...rmance.summary I've added data for several newer cameras, added a new section on Apparent Image Quality (AIQ) along with models for constant megapixels and constant format size. What formerly looks like a scatter plot now is taking shape in that the pixel size and sensor format are showing trends. The models should now allow prediction of performance when new cameras come out. The new AIQ plot is Figure 9. Roger -- Over the years, I have learned a LOT from your articles. I'm sure that the effort to digest this one will be valuable as well. Thanks for all your contributions here. -=- Rick -- Richard Karash Richard "at" Karash "dot" com |
