2/10ths of a second can make all the difference in the world.

The following site shows .27 secs (Shutter lag, full autofocus

This is a serious design weakness that eliminated the 7D from
consideration for me.

Oh, give me a BREAK. Two tenths of a second? You won't notice. And

what is that about autofocus? You guys really slay me. I thought no

Many programs will provide a histogram of the image. This is NOT what
EXIF does, but it certainly is useful, for those who understand what it
means.

The other poster was answering the portiion of the statement that went:
"one of the best features of digital for learning" and not exclusively
the part about EXIF.

I beg to differ. Even using MF (which I shoot 99.9% of the time), the
200ms lead time required to shoot makes it difficult to shoot sports.

Ok, so the serious photographer who wears glasses should do what.....use a
string and measure the distance from the subject to the focal point in the
camera....autofocus is a god send for those who do not have 20/20
vision...hopefully it might not be something you will be concerned
with...but once you go over 40 years old you have a good chance of needing
some vision correction device and you will realize the benefit of autofocus.

No need to shout, Ronald.

Two tenths of a second? You won't notice.

Feel free to round the number to a less precise value, but at least
round in the correct direction (3 tenths). You may be insensitive to
this particular performance metric, but I am not. In any fluid photo
situation, the lag is an unnecessary handicap compared to other cameras
in the class (eg EOS 350D has a lag time of approx 100 ms).

And

Many serious photographers use autofocus in many situations and have for
a long time.
If you prefer manual focus lag time from the same source:
"Shutter lag, manual focus 0.253"
Still an unpleasant lag (95% of the autofocus lag).

nitpick Of course, an 800x600 pixel jpeg at 72 dpi will be the same size
as an 800x600 pixel jpeg at 300 dpi :-) /nitpick

Oh yeah. The 7D has a diopter adjustment too, just for us old guys. I do
have a little trouble shooting with glasses on, but mostly it just amounts
to not being able to see the shake meter.
