Nikkor-M 200mm/8.0 on 8x10 camera?
Hi all-
I've been shooting 4x5 field cameras for years and now I would like to find an old 8x10 wooden field camera to refinish. My largest lens that I own is a Nikkor-M 200mm/8.0. Can I use this lens on an 8x10 camera as a wide angle lens (with a standard bellows) or would I need to buy a new lens? Your answers are always very valuable. Thanks, Chase W. |

Illumination may go to the corners but with a Diana style blur. If you want corner-corner sharpness with a Tessar formula then a 300mm is needed. Lens sharpness is not all that critical in 8x10 as enlargement is never very great. 2x w/ 8x10 yields a 16x20 print -- 2x w/ 35mm yields a 2x3" wallet print, and even a slightly fuzzy 35mm shot looks reasonably sharp when wallet size. If on a budget look for triplets like Geronars. Lenses don't wear out, so I always go used, just look out for old shutters - I find it better to pay for a lens in a modern Copal. -- Nicholas O. Nikkor-M 200mm/8.0 on 8x10 camera?
The 200mm Nikkor M f/8 covers up to 5x7. To properly cover 8x10 you
should purchase a different lens. Further, 300mm or 360mm seems to be the focal length some people use when they start in 8x10. I hope this helps - Chris Chase Martin wrote: Hi all- I've been shooting 4x5 field cameras for years and now I would like to find an old 8x10 wooden field camera to refinish.
