Canon 400D/Rebel XTi Infrared Photography Tests
Hi All,
I've uploaded my tests of the 400D for IR photography using a Hoya R72 filter: http://www.dimagemaker.com/article.php?articleID=800 Cheers, Wayne -- Wayne J. Cosshall Publisher, The Digital ImageMaker, http://www.dimagemaker.com/ Blog http://www.digitalimagemakerworld.com/ |

It seems clear to me that your red channel had the greatest sensitivity to IR, it was just over exposed. Naturally it won't make as good a print as the other channels because of the overexposure. If you exposed for the red channel instead of the green, your exposure times might not be as long. Fred |

I don't know about Wayne, but the most common reason for favouring the green channel is that there are twice as many pixels used in the green channel with Bayer sensors. -- Mike Warren My web gallery: http://web.aanet.com.au/miwa/mike |

Fred Hi Fred, What you say is true, though exposing for the red channel would have probably only gained me a stop in shutter speed. Still a tripod job. Since I was testing the camera I wanted to see the spread in exposure across the channels. If I was shooting IR with the 400D all the time I would be more careful to exposure for the red channel.
