I disagree... People need to believe in "something" If there is no
religion they invent one. (Lord of the Flies) These days it is pop
stars, Footballers, "Celebrities" Though with the exception of Fooball
teams people tend not to go to war over them :-)

On the other hand many of the Old Religions did little or no harm.

The states that have implemented "No Religion" states have not tended to
be the nicest places to live. I can understand the logic of the
intelligent few who decided it but it does not work for the masses.
Most were a reaction to the excesses of the various Religions they
through out.

As a Christian (and I'm not sure what this discussion is doing on
photographic ngs) I think the only retort can be from Lincoln
cathedral...

IT does compared to Christianity. Islam has always been far more
tolerant than Christianity. Whoever due to a Crusade over recent years
by the USA on Muslim countries they have struck back.
