Default Chinese quality: A horrifying example

I ordered a battery grip for a D50 (for a friend) from there.
Apparently, Nikon doesn't make one.
When the thing arrived, I compared it to my E-1 grip. What a
difference. Plastic is maybe 1/2 as thick. Glue spots on the edges
of the rubberized pad of the grip are seen, the battery access door is
so flimsy it feels like it might last 10 openings and closings and the
on/off switch is as cheap as they come. This piece of junk cost about
$80.00 and although my E-1 grip was about $200, in addition to being
far better built it also has controls on it that run functions on the
camera.
Lets hope the Japanese keep a VERY close eye on their production in
China.

I have bought a great deal of excellent products made in China.
One example probably made in a corner shop consisting of one and half
workers does not represent the whole country.

My mother had a lovely wooden chest made in a corner shop in China
consisting of one and a half workers.

A small shop doesn't automatically mean poor quality. In some cases
it means exceedingly high quality.

But I doubt that any kind of commercially available electronics would
be made in such a shop.

Actually from what I 've seen it's not entirely misguided. I work for a
company that buys lots of Chinese goods and then sell to retailers.
Based on the price point people pay for some of this stuff they get what
they deserve.,......Key-wrap.

There was an interesting article at MSN earlier today about how although
China has lots of business being transacted the pollution factors
are really making their 10 percent economic growth more like 7% which is
not adequate to support their population growth and that's with very
strict laws governing who can have children and how many.

About 400,000 people will die this year alone as a result of unclean air
quality. More than 300,000 Chinese do have access to clean safe drinking
water. Out of the top 20 most polluted cities in the world China has 16.

The following article also paints a bleak pictu

Most micro electronics are made by robots. Western businesses being the
providers of this technology and the source of the exploitation.

So what you're saying is that you spent less than half the money, &
got less than half the quality. Only someone like you would be
surprised by that.

That's pretty good.
Doesn't China have 1,500,000,000 inhabitants?
That equates to about 0.02%
0.02% of the population of the US is about 60,000.
I reckon that there would be at least that many people in the US who do NOT
have access to clean safe drinking.
