"almost DSLR"
In article , says...
The olympus kit lenses are quite good and I've read nikons are OK as well. But yes the canon kit lens is a pretty poor performer. Is the 14-54 as sharp as the lens of the Olympus 8080 ? -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus 50X0, 7070, 8080, E300, E500 forum at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ Olympus E500 resource - http://myolympus.org/E500/ |

From what I could tell, it's sharper at the edges wide open with better control over CA, but about the same in the centre and when stopped down. -Rich |

"almost DSLR"
I was in the same boat as you about six months ago.
My solution was to get a Pentax *ist-DS, but that was only because I already had a Tamron 28-200mm Adaptall lens that I could use on it (from my film SLR). If I was starting from scratch, my first choice would have been a KonicaMinolta A2 and my second choice would have been a Panasonic FZ20. The latest entry level DSLR cameras from KM (Dynax 5D) and Oly (E-500) look very tempting as well, if I hadn't gone with Pentax already. If KM hadn't replaced my dead Dimage 7i (with an A200), I would have bought a Panasonic FZ5 so I could have a nice small camera to take that has decent optics when I don't feel like lugging the DSLR around. |
