20D vs D200
I now have a D70. Both the canon 20D and Nikon D200 are in the price I want
to spend. I have no special requirements just general photography. Which would be my best bet? Bob |

want to spend. I have no special requirements just general photography. Which would be my best bet? I'd say the Nikon for two reasons: First, you probably already have at least one Nikon lens, and second, between the D200 and the 20D, I'd say that the D200 is the winner - although waiting to see if Canon announces something great at PMA might be prudent. However, since you already have a D70, but don't have any special requirements, why are you thinking of buying another camera? Unless there's something really important about the new model, you'd probably be better served by putting your money into quality lenses for the camera you already have. steve |

Bob Bob, You're probably going to get the standard reply here that if you now own Nikon lens then you should stick with Nikon. I personally have the 20D and really like it. J |

If you think the camera is the answer to your photographic problems I can
also solve your real estate problems by selling you the tiltle to several large bridges in well known cities . . . |

Bob Wait until the 20D's successor comes out in a month or so. Then decide. If it outstrips the D200, and does the things you want it to, then that's the camera for you. If the Nikon does what you want, then that bla bla.... OTOH, if the 20D does all you want, than the price should come down for the last few at the dealers when the successor camera comes out, so you might make a good deal... -- Skip Middleton http://www.shadowcatcherimagery.com |

If you don't have to spend money on the latest and greatest, why do it? If you are trying to impress your neighbors, if it does so at all, it does so for a very limited length of time. |

And if you *are* just trying to impress other people, a new camera will be "old hat" fairly soon, but a 400mm f/2.8 will impress for decades to come. : ) steve |

That last point about the 20D price coming down when the replacement is issued - is this what happened when the 300D was replaced by the 350D? If it is, I might make the plunge for a 20D then, because it wouldn't become a bad camera overnight! |
